CD Review: Pretenders – Break Up The Concrete (Shangri-La)

While I am always excited by a prospect of a new Pretenders album as the first few back in the early ’80′s impacted me so heavily (yes, I am a James Honeyman-Scott fan!), I don’t have any false expecdtations that any new Pretenders’ release is going to have the same fire and power of the band’s debut. I mean, leader Chrissie Hynde is still a wonderful songwriter and a musical force to be reckoned with but I have been disappointed too many times by bands and artists whom I was sure had the goods to keep deliver one last great album only to come up with a stinker. As it will be the final podcast of 2008, Rock and Roll Report Podcast #40 is not being released quite yet. It is currently undergoing a slow baste in the oven to achive its optimum tenderness.

ROCK STAR HOLIDAY JAM (A PARTY FOR HOMELESS YOUTH)

On December 19, from 7 p.m.-11p.m., Music Core, musicians, performers and other volunteers will join hearts and hands to shine light on the toughest time of the year for homeless youth. Contributing entertainers include House of Vibe Band and DJ X Men. Music Core, a group of indie musicians and industry professionals working to make a difference in their community, teamed up with Covenant House California and the Women’s Club of Hollywood to create an exciting event for all to eat, drink and be merry in the midst of the otherwise loneliest time of the year for a child without a home.
