In this our latest installment of our Cool Record Labels feature we focus on Boston-based Red Blue Records. Mike and Jess from the label took some time out to give us an idea of what they are all about.
Rock and Roll Report: How long has the label been around? How did it get started?
RBR: Red Blue Records began May 31st 2006 as a vehicle for Gone Baby Gone, the band of its founder, Mike Krilivsky. It has since grown into a multi-band label and booking company.
RRR: What kind of music does the label release?
RBR: Red Blue releases everything from pop-punk (Phone Calls From Home, Gone Baby Gone) to riff-heavy screamo (Ice Nine Kills).

Jeff Litman’s musical tastes range from Johann Sebastian Bach to Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach. After graduating from the IU jazz program, Litman obtained a masters in classical guitar performance and was on his way to completing a doctorate in classical music before returning to the melody-driven rock that he loved in his youth.

Preston Pisellini and Mark Winkler have formed the Webstirs’ backbone for 16 years, and after 2000’s indie-pop gem, “Radio Racket,” they moved on to other projects. Well, after seven long years, Chicago’s Webstirs have roared back to life.
The Rock and Roll Report Band of the Week is Catarang
March 30, 2009 by Intense Nick · Leave a Comment
According to www.urbandictionary.com ‘catarang’ the word is not defined yet. That’s handy as the music, which the band of the same name is indefinable and truly breathtaking in its imaginatively inventive creative fashion.
The constituent parts of this Catarang are Jack Simons who is the composer who also plays guitar, Aaron Knapp plays bass and Julian Simons is on the drums. Between the three of them, the mystical, mythical, musical beast named Catarang is forming so well, album one is coming soon and it is eagerly awaited for by me, I recommend the same action for everybody, this IS something worthy of great eagerness.

PIGSHIT by Gary Pig Gold – MICHAEL MAZZARELLA has A FEW FOLK SONGS
March 27, 2009 by Gary Pig Gold · Leave a Comment
“There’s a song about a bygone relationship fallen through the cracks of life. There’s a tale for a vagabond lover on the run. A gospel-esque offering about someone’s father – a blue-collar every-man’s hero. One decries a presidential administration and a blues is an open letter asking forgiveness. A couple have churchly overtones replete with an eminent chorus here, a “hallelujah” exclamation there. These are new folk songs written for anyone willing to listen.”
So states the Press Release heralding Folk Songs For The Curious Few, the latest home-conjured release from Michael Mazzarella.
