This week due to a major failure in my counting abilities I only played 9 songs instead of 10. Chalk it up to some over indulgence in egg nog…
PopVoxX is believed to have been abandoned as a newborn somewhere in the rural hills of Bulgaria. He was found & raised by a band of Gypsies who, over the next five years, worked their way west across Europe. It was in the Tuscan hills of northern Italy where the Gypsies left PopVoxX with a tiny sect of monks who had taken a lifelong vow of silence. It was in this silence where, thanks to century old chants, the foundation for his love of music was laid. This was also the place where he would learn of his destiny & receive his name. PopVoxX (the Latin root vox populi literally translates to “voice of the people”) became a title to which he would prove himself worthy in years to come.
This week’s Band of the Week is Edinburgh, Scotland’s Heavy Drapes, a band I have personally been a fan of for a few years now and I was pumped when they emailed me to let me know that they are fresh out of the studio with four cool new tracks. I have always loved the name of the song the band has provided for this week’s free download, I Wanna Be Maladjusted. I have always considered it my personal motto! LOL
I’ll let the band explain a bit more about what they are all about:
The band started when bass player and lead singer Guy Snowdon asked Liam Hopkins (Rhythm Guitar) if he wanted to join a band. Liam accepted and recommended that Tom Iliffe (Lead guitarist) be asked too. Having previously enjoyed some songwriting sessions with Liam Tom also accepted and brought with him drummer and close friend Shaun Lee and after weeks of searching for a singer Guy stepped up and took the duties.
As we approach the one year anniversary of the Rock and Roll Report Podcast I am happy to announce that the mission remains the same! We want to introduce you to some amazing rock and roll being created by artists who are either unsigned or signed to smaller independent record labels. If you think there is no good music out there any more I would beg to differ. There is tons of great music and what we play every week on the podcast is just a very small sampling of some amazing rock and roll.
Emerald City is the Ultimate 80’s cover band. Based out of Syracuse NY and founded in the early 90’s by Jon Celi. In 2006 Jon decided to reform EC with long time friend Joe McSweeney. Working with Gary Holland in former bands, he was the next piece to be added. In April 2007, Miky Jones joined in. These are all seasoned musicians and all have been playing for many years in the music business.
This week writers Caitlin Martin, Eric Lamb and the Rock Princess have all had a hand in picking the music played on the podcast and I look forward to more contributions from our writers in the future. We might even feature some co-hosts!
This week’s podcast was delayed by about 12 hours as I normally record it on the Tuesday night before releasing it on Wednesdays but I got caught up in following the election coverage in the States and didn’t get a chance to record it.
That being said I hope you really enjoy this week’s edition of The Rock and Roll Report. Once again I feature 10 tracks that I hope rock your socks off or at least inspire a bit of dashboard drumming and humming. All the bands played are either unsigned or are on independent record labels but all rock with authority in my opinion.
