Hot Chip side project alert! Back in February, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Alexis Taylor briefly mentioned to Clash Music that a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Al Doyle and percussionist Felix Martin that was in the works: “Al and Felix make songs together but they keep that separate…They were calling themselves Lanark, which is the name of the studio that we record in, but they just said the other day that they’re not going to use that name anymore, so I’m not sure.”
To date, Lanark has released one song, the gorgeous torch ballad “The Stone That the Builder Rejected”, on Hot Chip’s 2007 DJ Kicks mix. But it looks like that could change very soon.
Last night, Doyle took to Hot Chip’s Twitter account, saying, “Felix and I, and our third man Tom, will pretty much have finished the Lanark album by the end of this week. That was a fast 5 years. al.”
So, to recap: Doyle and Martin are still recording under the name Lanark, they’ve recorded an entire album’s worth of material, and it took them five years to do so. Progress! Further details were otherwise scarce.
The news is the latest activity in an already busy year for Hot Chip: they dropped the BNM’d One Life Stand, they’re set to go on tour with the xx later this month, and multi-instrumentalist Joe Goddard will release the debut EP from his side project the 2 Bears this month.
