In Praise of Music Blogs

Barbara Flaska over at Rock Critics Daily has posted a link to a great read about music blogs called New Kids on the Blog which chronicles the rise of the music blogger, people who post daily MP3s of great but obscure music just because they feel the need to spread the good word (and song) in this day of fast and cheap Internet connections. Couple this with podcasting and sites like Live 365 and you have a mini music revolution on your hands where the consumers of the music, those most passionate about it outside of the musicians themselves (and their comrades in arms at indie record lables, non-commercial radio stations and the like) are able to shine a light on music that may otherwise never break free from its geographic niche. It is like a Marshall McLuhan-inspired global music village. It’s fantastic!
