Introducing Blankfest Quebec

The Rock and Roll Report is excited to be a small part of the upcoming Blankfest Quebec charity show here in Montreal on February 21st, 2009. Last week’s Rock and Roll Report Radio was a Blankfest special edition and I want you to read the press release and try and help us if you can….

The 1st annual BlankFest Quebec will cover the city of Montreal with a blanket fundraiser on Saturday, February 21st at the city’s landmark venue Bar St. Laurent 2, located at 5550 St. Laurent (corner St. Viateur).

Blankfest Quebec’s goal is to collect as many Blankets for the homeless this year as possible and is asking guests to bring new and used blankets or comforters in good condition (minimum one per person) as the price of admission to the event.

In addition to the announcement of Blankfest Quebec blanket fundraiser, Blankfest Quebec is proud to announce that all blankets raised will be donated to Montreal’s well loved Old Mission Brewery in aiding the homeless they so generously aid every winter season.

Those left with out a home and sleeping in the streets are vulnerable to frostbite and death. BlankFest Quebec stresses the importance in saving lives and keeps those less fortunate than others to stay warm over the winter.

Blank-Fest Quebec in co-operation with the Old Mission Brewery, has been organized by Jon Asher after reading about his friend New York City indie rock veteran Kenn Rowell of The Baghdaddios founding BlankFest in 1997 and organizing an annual blanket fundraiser in New York City.

In the past, Rowell says, Blank-Fest NYC has raised more than 4,000 total donations that have been distributed to the homeless in the New York City area, and has inspired similar efforts in New Jersey, Manhattan, and Nottingham, UK. Among the many distinguished artists who have performed at past international Blank-Fests are: Rothberg (EMI), Buddy Cage (Grateful Dead), Marc Rizzo (Soulfly) and Meg Griffin (Sirius Radio).

Tickets or reservations are not required. Simply bring one or more blankets to the event.
