More on the future of your local neighborhood record store

The Village Voice has a piece in their regular “Sound of the Industry” column called Sick and Mortar- Real record stores open, close, move, struggle and thrive that describes the mixed success of some indie retail record stores. It is becoming quite clear that for a record store to survive they have to cater to a niche, but a niche that is popular enough that they can make money with it. It’s encouraging to see some of these stores surviving and even thriving but the future is certainly open to debate and no matter what you sell or what clientele you cater to, the old adage of “location, location, location” still very much applies. Use and support these record stores before they go the way of the drive-in movie. Thanks.
Later.
