When I heard about Music 2.0 I thought it was a great idea. Having a mix of record label suits, tech geeks and musicians get together to debate the future of music in the Internet age is a great idea. Then I saw the cost of attending! Check this out:
$795.00 Basic Ticket Includes all Music 2.0 sessions, lunch, cocktail party for two days. Excludes VIP Dealmaker Dinner on Dec. 8 and attendee list.
- $895.00 Deluxe Ticket Includes all Music 2.0 sessions, lunch, cocktail party for two days, and VIP Dealmaker Dinner on Dec. 8 and attendee list with names and companies of attendees (distributed at registration.)
$895.00 for a deluxe ticket! That’s probably the IT budget for some indie labels for a year! Ridiculous. If they really want to see the future they can just Google the Net for 20 minutes and they will come across all kinds of innovative companies like CD Baby and Magnatune. Of course, if anybody wants to send me a ticket to this event I would graciously accept. I have no problem sipping cocktails with the music intellegentsia!
