People are hurting. There is no doubt that this is the case and this year it seems even more acute than ever. When faced with a situation in which people are in need we can do one of two things. We can ignore their plight and carry on with our lives hoping in the back of our minds that somebody else will take care of it or we can grab the bull by the horns and do something about it. I am proud to announce that The Rock and Roll Report is teaming up with somebody who is not only grabbing the bull by the horns but he is wrestling it to the ground and dragging its sorry ass back to the pen to lick its wounds!
Black Book Entertainment Group is the brainchild of guitarist Church of the band Vizionz and it was conceived for one purpose and one purpose only, to raise awareness and funds for needy causes and charities. The great thing about Church and his vizion (pun intended!) is that he believes that raising awareness for worthy charities should not just happen at Christmas time but should be sustained throughout the year and he is just the man for the job.
Starting with a one time charity event on November 1st with his Concert for Covenant House – California, the success of that event and the outpouring of support he received has encouraged him to take things up a notch so on Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 he is launching his first annual Charity Awareness Concert at the Mission Tobacco Lounge in Riverside, California featuring four bands, free admission and an amazing amount of celebrities and prizes that will raise money and awareness for four incredible charities.
The charities are:
- Covenant House which is the largest privately-funded agency in the Americas providing shelter and other services to homeless, runaway and throwaway youth.
- Save the Ta Ta’s Foundation which raises money and awareness for breast cancer research with laughter, integrity and generosity through the sale of a wide range of very cool products
- Megans Big Cat Foundation a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting large cat sanctuaries and tiger conservation projects founded by Megan Tomczak, and
- Blank Fest an organization that provides blankets for the homeless.
The night promises to be a rockin’ good time (how could it not with Church running things!) and Church was telling me that the response by both the public, the media and fellow musicians and music biz people has been nothing short of staggering. Not only does he expect a full house but he is starting to wonder where everybody is going to fit!
Musical entertainment will be provided by four kick ass bands: Vizionz (2008 RCN Awards Nominee), Ronnie North (who’s tireless support of countless charity events is an inspiration to all of us!), Absinthe (2008 RCN Awards nominee) and Killjoy. And if you think the stars are just going to be on stage, guess again! Special guests include Tawny and Kristia from Bret Michaels’ Rock of Love, James Kottak of the Scorpions, Megan from VH1’s Rock of Love 3, Athena from Kottack, Stef from TV show Ear Candy and many, many more! Throw in a Daisy Rock Guitar giveaway, a raffle for an autographed Zildjian Cymbal, drum head and sticks by James Kottack and the Scorpions and an All Star Jam to end off the night and you have the makings of one hell of a party and did I mention admission was free!
I am also pretty stoked to announce that The Rock and Roll Report is teaming up with Black Book Entertainment Group and will be promoting all of their events in the spirit of solidarity as we aim to show that raising awareness for those less fortunate than us is something that has to happen twelve months a year, not just at Christmas time. Black Book understands this and we support them and their team all the way.
If you are looking for a way to help your fellow person this holiday season and you are also in the mood to party your ass off, head down to the Mission Tobacco Lounge in Riverside, California on November 22nd and give generously. You will feel great for doing it, even while you struggle with that hangover and ringing ears the next morning!
