Sloan, Peter Buck, Geddy Lee’s drummer & Das Hips

I have been listening to the new Sloan single recently and once again the band delivers. Sloan is the type of band (like R.E.M., Pearl Jam and the Tragically Hip) that not only play great music, but are so involved in other activities (like their own label Murderrecords) that they present you with a whole bunch of stuff to investigate. Through listening to Sloan, I was introduced to a whole load of Canadian East Coast bands like the Super Friendz, Eric’s Trip and Thrush Hermit. Peter Buck of R.E.M. is a veritable treasure trove of Rock and Roll esoterica. Not only does his band put out really cool B sides, but he has either guested on or plays with a zillion other cool bands like the Minus 5. For another cool side project, check out Pearl Jam”s Matt Cameron and his Wellwater Conspiracy. As far as the Tragically Hip, their choices of opening bands has been amazing. Through the Hip I have seen Sam Roberts, The Rheostatics, The Odds, Change of Heart….the list goes on.
Any other bands out there that you recommend like this? Let us know!
