Last year, the original lineup of the pioneering emo band Sunny Day Real Estate reunited for a tour, making a bunch of my friends from college very, very happy. At the time, it wasn‘t clear whether the band would remain together after the tour. But now, those same college friends are about to get even happier, because Billboard is reporting that Sunny Day are working on a new album.
This will be the first album from the original Sunny Day lineup since 1995’s LP2. That same year, the band broke up for the first time. When they reconstituted themselves in 1997, bassist Nate Mendel, who’d become a Foo Fighter, did not rejoin. Now, Mendel’s back. According to Billboard, the band played one new song on their reunion tour last year, but that song might not be on the album.
Sunny Day Real Estate have a few spring dates lined up, including Coachella.
