How do you sum up the how Tallboy’s music has gotten to this point?
Easy. Dedication.
Tallboy in its current form has been together since December of 2007, however the roots of Tallboy go back much further.
Carey Aubuchon is 24. He and Justin have been friends since Middle School, and were in the band programs together. Carey originally started playing the Saxophone, but later moved on to Percussion in the Jazz, Marching and Concert Bands. This is where the beginning of their friendship had formed out of the love of playing music. Carey also had a love for songwriting and playing guitar in his unconventional playing style, which is how he learned how to play. Carey takes a conventional right-handed guitar and flips it over and plays it left-handed. Carey just began his singing endeavor with Tallboy, and his voice and singing skills has progressed phenomenally in a very short amount of time.
Justin Bullen is 25 and has been playing Drums/Percussion for the past 18 years. He has also had the pleasure of returning to his High School after graduation and instructing the Percussion Line. Justin was also center Quint Tenor player in the Southern Oregon Crusaders. He is often referred to as what’s known as a “Basher” due to the ferocity in which he plays. After High School, Justin and Carey formed the band 3 Day Girlfriend, and continued to play in this band for 3 years, until the band split up. It was after this incident that they took a break from music to get their lives in order and come back to music when they were ready.
Angel Alvarez is 32 and has been playing Bass for 18 years. Angel also sings backup vocals. Angel was recruited into Tallboy by Carey, who just happens to be his Brother-in-Law. Before joining Tallboy, Angel was a member of 5 bands; most notably Half Rack, which he was a member of for 5 years and recorded 4 albums with them. Angel is also very familiar with many different aspects of the music industry which have helped Tallboy enormously, such as: Promotion, Booking, Recording Engineer, and also runs Tallboy’s live sound at their shows. When asked what his goal was, Angel simply stated that: “My goal is to become the best at what I’m capable of, and that is to play music for the fans. The fans make us who we are, and will become.”
Kevin is 24, and has been playing guitar for 10 years. Kevin started playing guitar due to seeing his father play and eventually gained interest in it. He then moved on to taking lessons, but ran out of money, so he developed his own style. Kevin has also played in a total of 3 bands both in the Rogue Valley and in Klamath Falls while he was studying at OIT. Kevin’s love of video games has earned him the nickname “Gamer K” by his band mates, as this is what he spends most of his free time pursuing, as well as practicing his butt off on guitar.
Tallboy is comprised of 4 individuals, who all have a common goal, which is to further their musical abilities, while also playing music that brings people joy. It is our absolute pleasure to play for our family, friends, fans, and ourselves.
