The Universal answer to Rhino’s Handmade Series

Expect to see more of this in the future. Universal Records has announced their Hip-O Select specialty label which will produce an eclectic array of music in limited CD runs available only through their website, much like Rhino Records does with their Handmade imprint. First up is the complete Coral Records output of Johnny Burnette and the Rock ‘n Roll Trio. Even though this is a major label thing I still think that it is cool, although the resemblance of the “Hippo” character is strangely similar to Rhino’s mascot. Separated at birth?
Later.

  1. Hip-O has been around since at least ’97 or ’98 (I just got rid of my launch mugs at a garage sale).

If Hip-O hasn’t even been on your radar til now, I don’t expect they’ll be making much noise in the future.

Great site by the way. I’m sorry I haven’t discovered it til now!
