What is the most played record in the UK?

Something by the Beatles perhaps? No. The most played record in the UK is “A Whiter Shade of Pale” by Procol Harum. Believe it or not, here are the top 10:

1. Procul Harum ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’
2. Queen ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
3. Wet Wet Wet ‘Love Is All Around’
4. The Everly Brothers ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream’/’Claudette’
5. Bryan Adams ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’
6. Abba ‘Dancing Queen’
7. Elvis Presley ‘All Shook Up’
8. Rod Stewart ‘Maggie May’
9. The Beatles ‘Hello Goodbye’
10. The Beatles ‘Get Back’

I am shocked that Wet Wet Wet are at number 3 with a crappy version of a Troggs classic. Even the REM version would be better than that load of crap. And Brian Adams? Sheesh! The rest of them are OK, even the Abba tune doesn’t bother me as much as that Wet Wet Wet travesty. Ah well, who am I to rain on somebody else’s parade huh?

  1. Speaking of the Troggs… I forgot to mention that the above mentioned ERIC CD also includes a first-time stereo mix of “Love Is All Around” by The Troggs!
