The Rock and Roll Report Posting Schedule for August 2007

cr-lea-6.jpg
It’s August and the heat is finally getting to me. For the remainder of the month I will be posting from Tuesdays to Thursdays only and taking Mondays and Fridays off to go to the beach. If you go to the beach in the Montreal or Ottawa area during the month of August and see some bronze God with rippling biceps and a six pack chest with a smile to die for, I’ll be the guy just to the left of him!

Thanks for reading. Take care!

Rock and Roll Report Blitz: Fiji Dots

fiji-dots.jpg
From the UK I present to you the Fiji Dots! A modern rock sound yet encompassing a wink and a nod to such classic bands as Rainbow and Queen, the Fiji Dots are full of bombast and vigor. Taboo is a stand out for me but I really enjoyed the A Few Years with those great backing vocals. The vocals in fact stand out for me as they combine hard rock swagger with a genuine taste of a melody. And they get bonus points for saying they sound like “something other than indie.” Good stuff.

You can listen to them at their MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/fijidots

3 Amigos Playlist for July 30, 2007 on CKUT 90.3 FM Montreal

little-3-amigos.jpgWell we once again laughed our way through another 3 Amigos show on the Drastic Plastic Program Monday night on CKUT FM. I decided to do something completely different and play 4 country tunes from rock artists that I have played on my show. We had a lot of fun with that! Armitage Shanks continued his tradition of playing cool UK gems that never seemed to make it big in North America and Doug Ford played his usual fine, eclectic collection of rock and roll.

Here is what we played:

Song- Album – Artist

  1. $100 A Week – S/T – Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass-Kicking Team
  2. I’ll Be Gone – Catching Flies with Vinegar – Jana Perri
  3. Drinkin’ Myself to Sleep – Tales of Drunkenness & Cruelty – The Condors
  4. At Least For Awhile – Varying Degrees of Failure and Tunelessness – The Piper Downs
  5. Reward – Alternative Eighties – The Teardrop Explodes
  6. The Killing Moon – Alternative Eighties – Echo and the Bunnymen
  7. Orgasm Addict – The Best Punk Album in the World – The Buzzcocks
  8. Wonderlust King – Super Taranta – Golgol Bordello
  9. Circadian Rhythm – The Search – Son Volt
  10. Wild Mountain Jam – Wild Mountain Nation – Blitzen Trapper
  11. Fake Empire – The Boxer – The National
  12. Diamond Ring – Let’s Just Be – Joseph Arthur and the Lonely Astronauts
