The Rock and Roll Report Band of the Week is Heaven’s Basement

(We continue our look back this summer at some past Bands of the Week. This week we feature Heaven’s Basement who were originally featured the week of February 9, 2009)

Born from the five corners of the UK with a sole ambition between them; to reach the summit of their potential and to be regarded alongside the bands that inspired them.

Heaven’s Basement are about evolution, growth and reaching new heights. Defiance, risk taking, and self-challenge are their hallmarks.

“Heaven’s Basement is dirty. It’s filthy. It’s sleazy. It’s gutter-rock by way of traditional heavy metal, and it’s straight-up awesome. From the minute the five-piece steps on stage you get the impression that this is the band of the night and do they ever prove it. Shirtless and coifed to the sky the band gets down and dirty and receives a boisterous reception for its troubles. Wearing its influences on bare arms (there’s a touch of Sabbath, a smidgen of the Crüe and more than a healthy portion of Axl Rose) iIt’s all snarling lyrics, melting solos and pure attitude

“We’re all about big, energetic, statements of intent”, says frontman Richie. “We’re the band that will make you fall in love with Rock n’ Roll all over again”.

I wanted to know more about these guys so I fired them off a few questions which they graciously took the time to answer:

The Rock Princess’ Pick of the Week is Horny Frog

horny-frogToday I bring you the Band Horny Frog, they have rocked me for awhile now and I wanted to shear what they are doing with the rest of the world…….

(Dallas / RGV TX. and Reynosa Mexico)
Arguably among the hardest working bands in the region, Horny Frog is currently playing venues in Texas / Mexico border. With English lyric and a penchant for the hard and aggressive groove, the guys will stop at nothing to continue to push the musical envelope.

The Rock Princess’ Pick of the Week is Illicit Eve

illicit-eve-298Illicit Eve have come a long way since they released their debut album in 2005, with various back line changes, Illicit Eve, now a rock duo are one of the most exciting up and coming rock acts around.

Emily Smart and Fliss Freeman are the female leads of the fashionable and enterprising rock duo. Blessed with super-talented musicians, whose dexterity on guitar provides a further string to their bow, Illicit Eve is more than your average rock group.

Smarts song-writing skills and soulful vocals are an ideal focal point over Freeman’s virtuosic bass guitar playing, and their unique blend of harmony is refreshing.

The Rock Princess’ Unsigned Pick of the Week are Stripping The Pistol (With free Download)

stripping-the-pistols-350-x-2501My Pic of the week this week is an amazing group of talent Im lucky to call friends…..Stripping The Pistol……

Kyriakos (Charlie) Tsiolis (vocals)
Kevin Cherello (vocals, guitar)
John Lovette (guitar)
John Almonte (bass)
Joe Nunez (drums).

“We plan on deconstructing music”, says Kevin Cherello (vocals, guitar). Stripping the Pistol formed with the intention of breaking the rules. The Chicago five-piece blends aggression with melody. The seamless interplay of the dueling vocalists is balanced by the precision, power and energy of the music. Their 3-song sampler featuring “Five of You”, “I Think There’s Something Wrong” and “Gone Beautiful” caused an industry and Internet buzz rarely seen for such a new band. “We recorded it in one day, just to hear the music on tape”, explains Kyriakos. With no intention on unleashing it to the masses, the band was surprised once the labels started courting them.

Rock Princess’ Unsigned Pick of the Week: Vougan

When a band is formed, things usually go with the flow naturally, as the time goes by. However, having an objective, a previous planning is something that can help effectively. This is the case of Vougan, band which had its base formed in July, 2005 by former members of Dark Avenger, Acácio Carvalho, G Zus e Hugo Santiago. The line-up was fulfilled in September the same year and set up with Acácio Carvalho (drums), G Zus (bass), Hugo Santiago (guitars), Rafael Galvão (keyboards, ex-Dark Avenger) and Carlos Zema (vocals, Heaven’s Guardian).

The Rock and Roll Report Band of the Week is Dearanna

In mid 2008, singer/songwriter Aaron Fisher teamed up with local producer/recording engineer Drew LeClair. Mainly to work on songs that Fisher had wrote that were intended for a solo album after his departure from his previous band. Weeks into this project would reveal that the first songs wern’t Fishers’ solo songs anymore, but a collaboration of two guys with serious dedication, devotion and talent working together as a team. Both decided to take on a partnership. Possibly make a record; make a few bucks and have some fun. It didn’t take long to realize that what they were doing was a little more serious than garage demos. The two agreed to take the project on as a more serious endeavor. Soon after the first few tracks were laid and the official myspace page was up; LeClairs’ house on D Avenue where it all started, was back up for rent and the boys were looking for a place to write and record…..on the cheap.

The Rock Princess’ Unsigned Pick of the Week is Loudmouth

Loudmouth is a ska/punk band that is serious about partying. 5 guys from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky that play loud, fast, and tight, reminiscent of the early Fat Wreck bands. They do this without sounding like a regurgitation of the past, and without losing their sense of fun or humor. “We like to have fun, and we like to play music, if we can combine those things and make a living out of it, then that’s the life we want to live.” says Mike their guitar player and co-founder.
