Bernie Tormé Blackheart album review plus album tour and competition details

Hot on the heels of a second highly successful crowd funding campaign via which achieved its goal in little more than a week, Irish Guitarist Bernie Tormé announces a New Album titled BLACKHEART, and a New UK Tour!

Bernie Tormé is proving to be much like an old oak casked Irish whiskey and his forthcoming release of his new album Blackheart is 100% proof to that statement. Bernie recorded the album with his old bass player Chris Heilmann and Ian Harris on drums.

Blackheart takes you on a wonderful and breathtaking ride through the varying rivers of Bernie Tormé’s eclectically electric talents. The album kicks off with a killer of a hard rock track called ‘Golden Pig’ before this leads onto ‘1985 (Keeper Of The Flame)’ which is a beautiful bluesy number. Blackheart may also be somewhat biographical, the next track ‘On Fire’ is a fantastic slab of blues rock which in turn leads onto another called ‘Better Days’. ‘Snake In The Garden’ follows on and this track gets one shaking along with its serious hard rock/bluesy/psychedelic grooves. Blackheart’s psychedelic blues centrepiece ‘Flow’ is track number six out of twelve and this beauty paces the album slightly right before ‘Into The Sun’ comes into play. This track has a warm gentle intro and its rolling rhythms gain weight as it progresses and leads onto ‘Pain Song’ which is another tune with a killer hard rock edge to it. This edge gains pace as ‘Dirt’ comes into play, this track is without doubt all killer with no filler, it is highlighted with sumptuous backing vox during the choruses. From here Bernie treats us to a true blues intro into ‘Steady Roller Blues’ which is an outstanding piece of blues rock as is ‘Miles To Babylon’ which follows on. The final number is track number twelve ‘Party’s Over’ which is a slow blues number which leads out with fine style. In this final track the backing vocals (Pledgechant) are provided partly from a number of Bernie Tormé fans. They had all made a pledge in the Sing-A-Long with Bernie part of Bernie Tormé’s 2015 pledge campaign. I personally pledged for this album and received my download copy in late July and have been following the campaign updates closely ever since. I have also been playing Blackheart almost constantly ever since then. For the second year running Bernie has very generously donated 10% of his Pledge Music funding to The Teenage Cancer Trust.

Blackheart deserves at least a 10/10 rating. Bernie Tormé is undoubtedly on top form at the moment and is chomping at the bit to get back out on tour after having a busy summer completing Blackheart while also playing some great sets at few rock festivals. Blackheart will be on general release via Retrowrek records as of October 2nd 2015.

Keep an eye on the Bernie Tormé official website for further information.

Once again in 2015 Bernie has been generous enough to have donated 10% of his pledge proceeds to the childrens cancer trust. This is what Bernie said about the 2015 tour – ‘We did a storming little UK tour end of last year following the release of the ‘Flowers & Dirt’ album,  and I really caught the bug to play live again, so it will be great to get out there again and make lots and lots of noise! We will be doing some new stuff, but also plenty of the old classic tracks from Gillan and other parts of my nefarious past, I can’t wait to catch up with all the new friends we made in 2014!’

I recently asked Bernie if he would be making himself available to meet and chat with his fans at these gigs. This was his reply – ‘Of course! I/we always go out to the merch stand immediately after the gig and sign anything anyone brings or buys, and talk as long as possible. So anyone who wants any Gillan related stuff or signed, I will be signing!’

On October 28th, Irish guitar shredmeister Bernie Tormé is coming to the Cheese and Grain Hall in Frome, Somerset during his new ‘Blackheart’ album tour. Just in case you do not know Bernie is literally a living legend, having played for Ian Gillan, Ozzy Osbourne (standing in with Ozz in the immediate aftermath of legendary guitarist Randy Rhoad’s tragic death), Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider, and Atomic Rooster, as well as his own projects Tormé (with LA Guns singer Phil Lewis), Electric Gypsies, and GMT and much more.

Both Bernie and the fantastic local support act Bite The Buffalo are playing this gig to raise funds for the Wessex MS Therapy Centre in Warminster. The Centre provides therapies, information along with practical and emotional support for people with multiple sclerosis, their carers and their families. They provide a comfortable and friendly environment from which they provide symptom management promoting independence and helping towards quality of life. The Wessex MS Centre provides long term, individual support.

As mentioned, local legends Bite The Buffalo will be supporting Bernie Tormé at this event. Cradle rocked in the mining towns of The Copperbelt in Central Africa, the British born brothers, Bite the Buffalo, have recently jet-setted back to the UK to share their sonic ramblings. Taking the international audience by storm, Bite the Buffalo adopts a White Stripes template and spices it up with a soul shakedown and fuzzy yet meaty guitars.

These two brothers are based in Bath and have been honing their mojo’s with stunning results for some while now. Their unique form of fuzz laden rock’n’roll and coffin blues has gained them much respect and admiration internationally. These two brothers play a live set which is simply phenomenal. This has gained them much interest and support from BBC Introducing. Bite The Buffalo are in the final stages of preparing their new, second album which is sounding huge. This gig may even turn into an album launch gig for both Bernie Torme and Bite The Buffalo!

The latest update on this gig is that two more stunning bands are now on board and will be adding to the evenings delights and thrills. Kikamora & Stone Cold Fiction will be adding acoustic sessions in the grain bar area of the venue. Stone Cold Fiction will be entertaining as people enter the venue and collect their drinks. Kikamora will also be playing an acoustic set in the Grain Bar during the main set change over.

Another exciting piece of news is that all tickets booked before the end of September will be entered into a prize draw.

The winner will get a signed vinyl copy of Bernie Torme’s fabulous double album released last year called Flowers and Dirt along with a signed gatefold CD of his forthcoming Blackheart album. Also, Bite The Buffalo have added a signed copy of their superb debut album Blue Lips. There will also be a prize draw for all who purchase/book a ticket, this means that you can enter the prize draw even if you cannot attend. The prize pot for all ticket holders will include a CD copy of the recently re released Bernie Torme album, Punk Or What. This release contains archive recordings of Bernie Torme recorded between 1977 & 1979. It is yet another great album from Bernie Torme.

This event is guaranteed to raise the roof of the Cheese And Grain Hall with such a fine selection of rock music, both new and old, electric and acoustic. Please do come along and enjoy the show in the knowledge that you will also be helping a very worthy cause, the Wessex MS Therapy Centre in Warminster, United Kingdom. Tickets for this event are available directly from the Cheese And Grain Hall

If you cannot get to this event but would care to help the cause, you can simply go to the website of the Wessex MS Therapy Centre and use the ‘donate with just giving’ button on the top right of their homepage. Thanks.
