Bring back dynamic range!

“The music we listen to today is nothing more than distortion with a beat” argues Bob Speer, and it’s not because it isn’t “good” music.” It is because it lacks dynamic range and Speer goes on to convincingly argue his point in his article “What Happened to Dynamic Range?” This argument has raged amongst Rush enthusiasts ever since the band released “Vapor Trails” and Speer certainly has a point when he concludes that “It’s high time we took advantage of what digital technology has given us. The ability to make recordings without noise or distortion, while at the same time preserving the natural dynamics of our music!”
