More on the Fair-Use fight in the U.S.

The Register has published an excellent piece on the recently introduced U.S. Inducement Act in Dirty rotten inducers- the law the IT world deserves? which essentially states that it is the fault of the tech companies for letting the copyright debate exceed all boundaries of common sense. My favourite quote is the lead-off sentence:
“It may soon be possible to carry around an AK-47 assault rifle and an iPod with you down the street – and be arrested for carrying the iPod.”
It is unbelievable to me how the legitimate problem of compensating artists in the digital age has degraded into a situation where the proposed punishment for having a camcorder in a movie theatre is 10 years in jail! If only drug dealers and gang members were treated so harshly.
