The Rock and Roll Report Band of the Week is Barbe-Q-Barbies

barbe_q_barbies_promo_2008This week’s Band of the Week is Finnish all-girl rockers Barbe-Q-Barbies.

Rustproof 21st century rock, played loud and proud with a femininely furious attitude. AC/DC and Queens Of The Stone Age meet The Runaways in the night of Helsinki.

The tale of Barbe-Q-Barbies began in 2002 but the current and final member count wasn’t reached until in the beginning of 2007. The band members are the following fierce femmes: Niki (vocals), Kaisa (guitar, background vocals), Niina (drums, background vocals), Ekkis (guitar) and Katja (bass guitar). Each of them has that “twist and shout” mentality spiced with the unique sting of gasoline-drenched rock’n’roll. The music speaks of their rosy world – and how they survive in it! Although the lyrics tell of bad men and wicked women and the rest of life’s little perks, the band tells its tales frankly and without frills.

Barbe-Q-Barbies’ current discography so far includes three independently published recordings: Rodeo Roll 7” (-03), Snapshot EP (-04) and 2007 published single Spell/Escort. During these couple years of existence Barbe-Q-Barbies have managed to create an exhilarating rock’n’roll that smacks of oldies, garage, punk and hard rock all at once. The band has named their influences such names as KISS, AC/DC, Runaways and Motörhead. So far Barbe-Q-Barbies have been doing gigs all over Finland, Helldone Festival (FIN) 2007 and as the supporting act for W.A.S.P. in Teatria, Oulu (FIN) in 2008 to name a few. The single ‘Escort’ was chosen as “The song of the week” in Finnish radio station YleX.

At the moment the band is recording its first full-length album.

Long live Rock’n’Roll!
