In mid 2008, singer/songwriter Aaron Fisher teamed up with local producer/recording engineer Drew LeClair. Mainly to work on songs that Fisher had wrote that were intended for a solo album after his departure from his previous band. Weeks into this project would reveal that the first songs wern’t Fishers’ solo songs anymore, but a collaboration of two guys with serious dedication, devotion and talent working together as a team. Both decided to take on a partnership. Possibly make a record; make a few bucks and have some fun. It didn’t take long to realize that what they were doing was a little more serious than garage demos. The two agreed to take the project on as a more serious endeavor. Soon after the first few tracks were laid and the official myspace page was up; LeClairs’ house on D Avenue where it all started, was back up for rent and the boys were looking for a place to write and record…..on the cheap.
It was also around this time that they had realized a band was going to be necessary to further their plan, and that they couldn’t be studio slaves to really progress further (at least not at the appropriate level). LeClair would play guitar, Fisher was the voice; all that was left to accomplish was a reliable rhythm section. After a lot of consideration and brainstorming, Fisher called up fellow local guitarist and music veteran Will Dye (Bitter Pill/Pain in Life) for a possible recruit. As fate would have it, Dye was totally attracted to the Dearanna (at the time they called their project: Radioslut) sound. Dye was into it so much that it wasn’t long before Fisher and LeClair would set-up shop in Dye’s trailer behind his house and were back to cranking out material….constantly, sometimes even 48 hours straight. Fisher, LeClair and Dye all worked together to transform the 12×60 2 bedroom mobile home into a great studio. Rigid fiberglass panels, egg crate foam and tons of old blankets would give them everything they needed to write and produce their best work to date.
What started out as a couple of quick myspace demos has grown into at least two full-length albums worth of material (and progressing daily), a constant drive for attention and betterment, a relentless hunger to be noticed and adored, and a complete line-up now including drummer Aaron Moses (Sent by Ravens) and bassist Travis Hutto (Bitter Pill/Isabelle’s Gift).
Currently, Dearanna remains writing material while rehearsing for tour and shopping to producers and labels.
WE ARE DEARANNA. WE ARE DRIVEN….
Today the awesome band known as DEARANNA have taken the time to answer afew questions for The Rock and Roll Report…..
Thanks guys ;o),I’ve been a Fan of yours now for awhile and I enjoy the tunes you are putting out there!!!
Q – Rock Princess: COULD YOU PLEASE INFORM US ALL, WHO IS DEARANNA …AND WHO PLAYS WHAT INSTRUMENT….?
A – Drew: On lead vocals and acoustic guitar we have Aaron Fisher, I play lead guitar, on rhythm guitar is Will Dye, Travis Hutto on bass and Aaron Moses on drums.
Q – ROCK Princess: HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN EACH OTHER AND HOW DID YOU GET TOGETHER…..?
A – Drew: I know Aaron (Fisher) from recording his old band NeverBetter. We started working together in our free time and writing songs mainly to make money off of. We had both gotten tired of doing the whole bust-ass-for-nothing routine with our other bands so we decided to do something easy. Well, when we started working together on this project, we realized it was more serious than what we had anticipated and we would need a band. So we started calling our friends in the local rock scene and that’s when Fisher got up with Will (who at the time was still playing with his band Bitter Pill). Will heard what we were doing and was onboard almost immediately. He let us turn his trailer (the Bitter Pill practice spot) into a studio and we just started writing. Originally Aaron and I had planned to basically find hired guns that wouldn’t interfere with the writing process. Will surprised the hell out of us with really cool ideas and opinions for some of the songs, bringing in some really stellar material, plus he’s just a cool dude to hang out with. We were going to keep writing songs and start shopping them to A&R agencies and TV and Film subsidiaries, not really thinking about playing live. We didn’t think it was that important because if the songs were good enough, a record label would put together a band for us. So Aaron, Will, and I decided to start a variety cover band just to make some money and have some fun. Well, DearAnna shows no mercy to time, and we just couldn’t divide the attention between covers and writing this music. Anna has shown herself to be selfish bitch ;). However, we were still itching to play live and we had written so much material that it was time. Travis was playing guitar for Bitter Pill so when they disbanded, he was homeless. When we decided to do the cover band thing, Travis wanted to play so he went out and bought a bass rig and a bass. He heard what we were trying to do and so naturally, having shown initiative and a certain level of dedication by just up and buying some expensive gear for the purposes of the band, we put him on as bassist. Aaron Moses actually contacted Aaron and said that he really dug what we were doing and if we needed a drummer to consider him. He tried out, learned the songs, and it just felt right. He beats the crap outta the drums (you MUST beat the CRAP outta the drums if you’re gonna play for us, haha) so it was a no brainer. All this has happened so fast its kind of hard to keep up. We’ve only been an established group for about than six months.
Q – Rock Princess: WHERE DID YOU GET THE NAME DEARANNA FROM…..?
A – Drew: It’s a secret 😉
Q – Rock Princess: YOU GUYS HAVE SOME WICKED SOUNDS CAN YOU TELL US HOW THEY COME ABOUT AND IS IT A JOINT EFFORT TO WRITE THEM……?
A – Drew: Well there’s really no standard formula for a DearAnna tune. They just kind of happen. Fisher will bring in a structured idea and a killer hook and we’ll write around that till we get something that flows. I’ve written a couple songs out of thin air. Same with Fisher. Will’s written some stuff and we just laid it down….I wrote one in the shower….haha shit like that. A lot of it happens in the studio then we figure out how to portray it accurately live.
Q – Rock Princess: WHAT GENRE OF MUSIC DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR WORK TO BE AND WHY……?
A – Drew: We don’t really like labels. They can be a bit dangerous. However, if classification is in order then I’d say the sound is just good old fashioned rock with sugar on top.
Q – Rock Princess: HOW HAS YOUR MUSIC EVOLVED SINCE YOU FIRST BEGAN PLAYING MUSIC TOGETHER…..?
A – Drew: IMMENSELY! We’ve just gotten a lot broader with our writing styles and maybe even a little “artsier”, but still maintaining pop sensibility. This is the best MTV music you have ever heard.
Q – Rock Princess: WHAT ARE YOUR REHEARSALS GENERALLY LIKE….?
A – Drew: Hahahaha…..there’s never a dull moment.
Q – Rock Princess: DOES MYSPACE PLAY A BIG PART IN THE BAND AND GETTING YOU OUT THERE TO THE PUBLIC…..?
A – Drew: Yes. It’s how we started. We made demos and put them up on myspace. People liked it, so we wrote more and that’s how our buzz began. We are now in the stages of bringing the attention from myspace into the real world, but we will never forget how it started. WE LOVE YOU TOM!
Q – Rock Princess: WHAT SOUNDS TURN YOUR EARS ON AS INDIVIDUALS…AND IS IT WAY DIFFERENT TO WHAT YOU PLAY…..?
A – Drew: Well, I can’t speak for everyone but I would say that our musical tastes are about as diverse as our sound. It’s all in the same field, but it’s all different. We all appreciate different styles and textures regardless of form.
Q – Rock Princess: HAVE YOU HAD SOMETHING WAY OUT THERE HAPPEN TO YOU WHILE ON THE ROAD OR AT GIGS ;O)) NOW DONT BE SHY GUYS HAHAHA….?
A – Drew: Nothing yet….keep ya posted though.
Q – Rock Princess: WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN STORE FOR US YOUR FANS IN 2009……?
A – Drew: You will hear us, you will see us, and you will love us because without you there’s no point to any of this. We write music for you! The whole idea behind this music thing is to touch people…..in special places….everywhere…..hahaha.
Q – Rock Princess: Thank you guy’s for taking the time to do this for us :o).Before I leave ya in peace is there any thing else you would like to add? Feel free!!!
A – Drew: See ya on the coast, through the TV screen and throwing yourself around to our music in the crowd. Rock.
You guys are one KICK ASS Band and we all wish you everything Rock and Roll in your future….take care and don’t
forget to come rock OZ we need ya also ;o))
